The music workshops titled “My Song, Your Song” were designed as participatory, arts-based activities aimed at supporting women’s psychosocial well-being by enabling emotional expression, storytelling, and collective sharing in a safe and supportive environment. By drawing on the healing and unifying power of music, the workshops created opportunities for women to express themselves both individually and collectively, while strengthening social bonds and solidarity.
The first workshop was conducted in Idlib on 7–8–9 December 2025, followed by the second workshop in Azaz on 18–19–20 December 2025. Each workshop was attended by 15 women. The sessions were facilitated by experienced trainers using inclusive, participant-centred, and trauma-sensitive approaches.
Throughout the workshops, participants:
-
Created song lyrics inspired by their personal experiences, emotions, and aspirations,
-
Collaboratively developed melodies and rhythms through group work,
-
Engaged in a shared creative process that fostered empathy, mutual understanding, and collective support.
The “My Song, Your Song” approach encouraged women to make their own stories visible while actively listening to and valuing the stories of others. This process contributed to increased self-confidence, strengthened communication skills, and a greater sense of belonging among participants.
In addition, the workshops supported women in recognizing that they are not alone in the challenges they face. Through collective musical creation, participants were able to engage in processes of healing, resilience, and empowerment. The songs and musical outputs produced during the workshops reflected a shared memory and collective strength, serving as meaningful expressions of solidarity and hope.
Overall, the activity demonstrated the positive impact of arts-based psychosocial support interventions on women’s well-being. It highlighted music as a powerful tool for fostering emotional recovery, social cohesion, and empowerment, even in contexts marked by displacement, uncertainty, and ongoing adversity.
