The drama workshops titled “Seeing You in Me and Me in You” were implemented as participatory, arts-based psychosocial activities aimed at fostering self-expression, empathy, and mutual understanding among women in a safe and supportive environment. Using drama and role-play as creative tools, the workshops enabled participants to explore personal experiences, emotions, and relationships, while strengthening emotional resilience and social connectedness.
The workshops were carried out in Azaz on 12–13–14 December 2025 and in Idlib on 18–19–20 December 2025. Each three-day workshop brought together women in a structured yet flexible setting facilitated by experienced drama practitioners using inclusive, survivor-centred, and trauma-sensitive methodologies.
Throughout the workshops, participants engaged in a range of interactive drama exercises, including body awareness, improvisation, role reversal, and storytelling. These activities allowed women to reflect on their own experiences while stepping into the perspectives of others, encouraging empathy, active listening, and emotional awareness. By “seeing themselves in others and others in themselves,” participants were able to recognize shared feelings, challenges, and strengths.
The drama process provided a powerful space for women to safely express difficult emotions, challenge internalized fears, and build confidence through collective creation. Group-based performances and shared reflections helped strengthen trust, solidarity, and a sense of belonging among participants.
Overall, the “Seeing You in Me and Me in You” drama workshops demonstrated the effectiveness of theatre-based psychosocial support in promoting emotional healing, social cohesion, and empowerment. The activity contributed to enhancing women’s self-esteem and interpersonal skills, while reinforcing the value of creative expression as a tool for resilience and recovery in contexts affected by displacement and prolonged adversity.
