The two-day training entitled “Building Peace Together: Women’s Role in Civil Peace” was delivered in Idlib on 17–18 April 2026 and in Azaz/Afrin on 19–20 April 2026. Each training consisted of five hours of activities per day and aimed to strengthen young women’s capacity to contribute actively to civil peace, conflict prevention, social cohesion and inclusive community engagement.

The training followed an interactive and participatory methodology combining guided brainstorming, case studies, working groups, video-based learning, open discussions and practical exercises. The sessions addressed individual and collective identity, the formation of assumptions and perceptions during conflict, the concepts of conflict, violence and peace, dialogue across differences, conflict-sensitive community engagement and the role of women in peacebuilding. Participants also examined United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, the direct, indirect and structural impacts of conflict on women, and the political, economic and cultural barriers limiting women’s participation in peace processes.

Azaz/Afrin, 19–20 April 2026 15 0 15 65.71%
Total participations 30 0 30

A total of 30 women participated in the activity, with 15 women attending each training. No male participants attended. Accordingly, the target of 30 participants established for this activity was fully achieved.

The assessment results demonstrated measurable improvements in participants’ knowledge in both locations. The training reports indicate that participants developed greater awareness of identity and community tensions, improved their understanding of women’s social and political roles in peacebuilding, strengthened the link between gender equality and civil peace, and generated practical ideas for inclusive community-level interventions.
