The three-day rights-based training entitled “Knowing Our Rights: Women’s Rights and Why They Matter” was delivered in Azaz between 24–26 April 2026 and in Idlib between 28–30 April 2026. The training aimed to increase participants’ awareness of women’s rights within the broader human rights framework, strengthen their ability to identify and analyse gender-based discrimination and rights violations, and improve their confidence and capacity to claim their rights and contribute to community-level change.

The training followed an interactive and participatory methodology combining guided brainstorming, case studies, working groups, open discussions and practical exercises. The sessions addressed the conceptual and legal foundations of human and women’s rights, international human rights instruments, the distinction between rights, social customs and violations, gender roles and power relations, gender-based violence, equality and equity, protection mechanisms, assertive communication, women’s civic participation and community advocacy. Participants also analysed practical scenarios and discussed safe and appropriate responses to rights violations.

The training reports further indicate that participants improved their understanding of women’s rights, gained practical tools for analysing gender-based violations, strengthened their ability to express and claim their rights safely, and developed greater self-confidence and awareness of their role in societal change.
