An open call for the Rights-Based Short Film Screenplay Competition was launched on 10 February 2026 and remained open until 12 March 2026. The call encouraged Syrian young people to submit original short screenplays addressing women’s rights, gender equality, marginalisation and social inclusion. The competition was promoted through the project’s digital platforms and WhatsApp groups. Applications were submitted online, together with a screenplay of 2–5 pages, and 19 applications were received.

The screenplays were evaluated by a three-member jury comprising a gender expert, a film producer and a screenwriter-director. The evaluation considered narrative quality, the strength of the rights-based perspective, cultural sensitivity, creativity and production feasibility. Following the assessment, two winning screenplays “A Sound Without an Echo” and “Permission to Film” were selected.

The winning authors participated in the pre-production, production and post-production stages, and both screenplays were professionally produced as short films. The films served as youth-led advocacy materials promoting gender equality and challenging stereotypes affecting marginalised women and girls. They were disseminated through the project’s digital communication channels and screened at the 29th International Flying Broom Women’s Film Festival, held in Ankara on 2–7 June 2026, thereby increasing the visibility of the project and its advocacy messages.
